Jules Bledsoe (1897-1943) was a famous American opera singer. He was in the cast of Jerome Kern’s play Showboat where he sang Ol’ Man River. The show premiered in December 27, 1927.
George Jessel (1898–1981) was a popular U.S. actor and singer by the time the song was composed.
